Q: What is split service?
A: It is when a municipality adjusts its trash service to 1 day a week collection for certain months of the year and switches back to 2 days a week during the warmer months.
Q: Why did Florence Township switch from 2x a week trash service to a split service schedule?
A: Facing rising costs just like every other local government and business, the township bid the latest contract in many forms in an effort to stabilize or reduce the costs to residents. Accepting a minor schedule change for a few months helped the township to award a contract at prices that are below what has been paid for the past several years. This is a savings that is passed along to all property owners.
Q: When will split service trash collection begin in the community and when does once (1x) a week pickup start?
A: On November 1st of each year, trash is collected once (1x) a week for the months of November through the end of March. Twice (2x) a week service runs from April 1st to October 31st each year.
Q: Under the contract and split service, when exactly will I be picked up one time (1x) a week and when will I be picked up two times (2x) a week?
A: Curbside and alley pick up for properties will be as follows during these months:

Q: Is split service trash removal going to be temporary or permanent?
A: Split service trash pickup will be in place until at least December 2012. In early to mid 2012, the township will re-bid its sanitation removal contract. Florence Township will continue to explore all reasonable ways to stabilize and reduce costs in the future.
Q: What will my pick up days be when we start once (1x) a week trash removal on November 1st until we return to twice (2x) a week service on April 1st of each year?
A: Under the months when there is split service collection, trash will be removed in accordance with the following schedule.

Q: What if the landfill is closed and trash cannot be picked up when my only trash day falls under split service schedule?
A: If your pick up day is Monday and the landfill is closed, then the township will pick your trash up on the next day, Tuesday. The same minor adjustment will be done if the landfill closure occurs on a Tuesday or Wednesday pickup. Trash removal just occurs the next day.

A: Yes. If this happens, then everyone will have their trash picked up the next regular work day. Example: Monday will be Tuesday; Tuesday will be Wednesday; and Wednesday will be Thursday. The township shall run ads in the local papers giving advance notice of the minor schedule change, and do a posting on the township website and Florence Township Television Comcast Channel 19.
