Florence Twp Community Center
At 69 Main Street in the Village of Roebling, Florence Township enjoys a beautifully refurbished and renovated 100 year old auditorium that was once the main source of entertainment for the workers who labored at the nearby Roebling Steel Mills. When the Roebling Family began to turn more of the village into private homes and businesses, this building eventually came into possession of the Roebling Fire Company. The members of the Roebling Fire Company cared for this wonderful building for decades and because of their responsible stewardship, the building was prime for the municipality to complete renovations in order to prepare the building for public use.
Now, the building is the Florence Township Community Center. The large assembly hall portion of the building is named Fireman’s Hall, after the brave and responsible volunteer firefighters who made sure the building would survive for future generations to enjoy. In 2012, the Mayor and Township Council decided the building needed a new partner to help manage the public access so the township worked with another group of brave and responsible public servants to get the job done.
Today, Florence Township, makes it possible for various community groups and organizations to use this exceptional piece of history in our community.
