Recycling Markets Going Strong!
Markets for paper, cardboard, bottles and cans are on the rise after a 2-year slump.
Sales of recyclables help offset our cost to collect and sort them. This year, the net cost for the County to provide recycling services will be less than $4/home per month.
Did you know…
All your bottles and cans and most of the paper and cardboard are recycled in the US or Canada.
Last year, the County’s program recycled over 40,000 tons, saving towns $3.4 million in landfill disposal fees.
Lithium Batteries Threaten Recycling Centers
Last month, we had another fire at the Recycling Center caused by a crushed lithium battery. Fortunately, it was quickly extinguished. Lithium battery fires recently destroyed two major recycling centers in the state. These batteries are now found in many common items, even musical greeting cards!
Please tell your family and friends – No batteries in your bin! Instead, visit Call2Recycle.org for battery recycling sites.
