CHANGE YOUR CLOCK -CHANGE YOUR BATTERY:
Saturday evening November 4th, 2023, when you go to bed remember to set your clock back one hour. This is also a great time to check your detector and/or change its battery. If your detectors are powered by 9-volt batteries, they need to be changed twice a year. However, this type of detector is becoming a thing of the past. Newer battery powered detectors have sealed 10-year power cell and never require battery replacement until the unit either reaches the end of its service life or a failure occurs. Hard-wired units can have either battery back or have a sealed battery as well. If the hardwired unit has battery backup, you should change the battery annually.
Regardless of the type of detector you have you need to check your detectors and keep it clean in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. You should always take care of the equipment that takes care of you. Practice fire drills at home, have a meeting place outside the home, and call 9-1-1 from outside the home. Meeting places are so important. That way everyone in your home knows where to go in an emergency and the head count of everyone is easy to obtain. Children should be taught at a young age that hiding in their room during a fire emergency is unsafe.
A moment for safety can provide a lifetime for happiness.
