Happy Thanksgiving

All Florence Township Offices are Closed

Thursday, November 23rd and Friday, November 24th

1. Municipal Offices

Municipal Office hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. For your convenience the Drop Box in the Lobby of the Municipal Building is open 24/7 and can be used for payments, license renewals, construction permits etc.

LEAF COLLECTION UPDATE

Beginning Monday, November 27th leaf collection will be completing ZONE 2 then beginning ZONE 3. This zone includes the areas of Amboy Avenue to Second Avenue, covering thru Tenth Avenue. Alden, Norman and all intersecting streets are part of Zone 1 collection. No Parking Signage will be placed where one side of the street will be completed on Day 1, then opposite side of street will be completed on the following day. Click on our website link to learn about our leaf collection rotation and what zone your property is located within. We will continue looping the zones throughout leaf season.

Please DO NOT place cut grass in leaf collection piles.

2. Township Activities:

Dungeons and Dragons: Every Tuesday at 6:00 PM at the Florence Community Center Community
CPR Training: 3rd Tuesday of the month starting in May from 7:00 PM – 10:30 PM at 401 Firehouse Lane Free

Computer Classes: 4th Wednesday of every month at 2:00 PM at the Florence Community Center

Not so Gentle Fitness: Every Wednesday at the Florence Community Center from 7:15pm – 7:45pm.

Weekly Gentle FitnessClass is canceled for Thanksgiving Day.

Yin YogaTHANKSGIVING YOGA – Florence Twp Community Center 10:00am to 11:00am.

3. Road Program

The 2023 Road Program has been completed. The contractor is currently going through the punch list, final striping and miscellaneous items.

4. Project Freedom

Project Freedom continues property clearing at Rt. 130 and Hornberger Ave. This project is part of Florence Townships affordable housing obligation and will have 72 deed restricted units that will provide barrier free housing to enable individuals with disabilities to live independently.

Township Council Meetings

The next Council meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, December 6, 2023 starting at 7:00 p.m.

Residents are encouraged to attend the meeting in-person. Instructions for virtual attendance can be found on the Township’s website (www.florence-nj.gov), on our Facebook page (Florence Township), or by calling the Township Clerk’s Office at 609-499-2525, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If you are unable to attend the meeting in person or virtual, you can review the zoom recording of the meeting beginning the next day by going to the township website or the link posted on our Facebook page.

There are several ways to view the zoom recording:

1. Click on “Documents” tab, then click on “Recorded Zoom Meetings”.

2. Click on “Government” tab, then click on “Recorded Zoom Meetings”.

3. Click on “Documents” tab, click on “Agenda & Minutes”, click on 2023 Township Council, and at the top of the page “Click Here to View Township Zoom Recordings

Residents are encouraged to attend the meetings in person. If you are not able to attend in person, instructions for virtual attendance can be found on the Township’s website (www.florence-nj.gov). Zoom recordings are posted to the Township’s website the day after the meeting.”

The Planning Board’s next Regular meeting is scheduled for Thursday, December 21, 2023 at 7:30pm. (October 24th meeting has been canceled).

The Zoning Board’s next Regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, December 4, 2023 at 7:30 p.m.

The Economic Development Committee’s next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at 7:00p.m.

The Recreation Committee’s next meeting is scheduled for Monday, December 4, 2023, at 7:00PM

The Environmental Commission’s meeting is scheduled for Thursday, December 7, 2023 at 7:00p.m.

6. Police Department

If you have an emergency, dial 911. If it is a non-emergency requiring police response, call (609) 267- 8300. The police lobby window will be open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday from 8:00a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Wednesday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. If you require police assistance, please use the yellow call box located by the Municipal Building Main Lobby doors. A police officer will subsequently be dispatched to handle your matter. 7. Fire District

LITHIUM-ION BATTERY SAFETY:

Always make sure to properly charge your lithium-ion batteries with their approved charger and follow these safety tips below.

• Always make sure they comply with and meet the requirements of (UL) Underwriters laboratory.

• Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for charging and storage.

• Always plug the charger directly into an outlet (i.e., no extension cords).

• Always keep batteries at room temperature and avoid temperature extremes either hot or cold.

• Always charge and store your batteries from combustible materials (i.e., excessive papers, clothing, wood, etc.) or flammable liquids.

8. Florence Township Water and Sewer

The drinking water remains in compliance, and the running average (4 quarters of testing) for PFOA is under the NJDEP limits. We are still required, however, to send out a notification letter to the residents and businesses each quarter until our new PFOA treatment plant is constructed. Florence Township has consulted with our water engineer and the NJDEP to develop a corrective action plan, and the design for the plant is underway. We will continue to test the wells to ensure the safety of our residents. For more information, please contact David Lebak at (609)-499-2518.

9. Tax Bills and Water/Sewer Bills

Need help paying your water and sewer bills? The State LIHWAP program can help! To apply, go to waterassistance.nj.gov or call NJ211. Payments can be made online www.florence-nj.gov or use the Drop Box located next to the trophy case in our front lobby. The Drop Box will be checked multiple times daily for your convenience. Payments must be check or money orders, NO CASH. Please provide a phone number with your payment and we will call to confirm payment was received. Please allow 48 hours for your payment to be posted to our online account portal. Feel free to call the office with any questions, 609-499-2525. The office hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Any documents left in the drop box will be processed and mailed back to residents as needed. The Drop Box is available 24/7 for resident’s convenience.

10. Construction Office

The office hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Residents and developers dropping off permits, plans, etc. are encouraged to use the drop box located inside the front entrance to the Municipal Building. Any questions, please call the Construction Office at (609) 499-2130.

11.Recycling

The recycling center hours are: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Check out our township website for Spring Cleaning & Recycling updates: https://florence-nj.gov/spring-recycling-update/

Florence Township Recycling Center will be CLOSED on Thursday, Friday, November 23rd and Friday, November 24th.

13. Municipal Court

We encourage individuals paying tickets and/or fines to continue to pay on-line or use the drop box located inside the front entrance to the Municipal Building. Please contact the Court Office at (609) 499-2222 if you have any questions. The court office hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday.
